In this issue, we celebrate all the wonderful holidays that come in the waning of the old year and the budding of the next – 2010! Can you believe it? We celebrate by seeking out and acknowledging gift-givers in our community who have quietly been giving to us all year long. We meet a young woman who is teaching us to save the Arctic ice, home to the dying polar bear population. We meet a passionate teacher who sees that lives can be re-routed even in those we’ve lost hope for, and another educator who walks the walk every day to show that we truly can live differently in the world. We introduce you to a businessman who reuses people’s trash and with it rebuilds lives, and an organization that is rebuilding our ecosystem. We’re given health advice from our masterful herbalist and introduce a dentist with a big message. Our cover art is generously offered by a newly-local artist/musician, Sheralyn Barnes, whose whimsy gives us all a smile.
We wish you all a beautiful end to an amazing year of life on this precious planet, our Mother Earth.
At GreenList, with our features, our calendar and our directory—both in print and on the web—we have the lofty goal of trying to provide people with the tools to go into the future with eyes open. Whatever path we choose to take, we’ll know there are a lot of options available.

In this issue you'll find articles on some folks who are recreating the world. Bioneers and Transition Louisville are helping us imagine. E.ON and UofL are making things happen. And we can be good stewards, too, by consuming consciously. From takeout food, to coffee, to caring for the lawn –there are ways to do it better.
And remember to feed the soul. We look at music for children and grownups in this issue, and our cover art is amazing. Natalie Lanier, in her artist’s statement, says: “I am a masterpiece placed here to be an inspiration.” You can see more of her art and learn about the studio where she exercises her creativity at www.creativediversity.org. Read her complete artist's statement on page 4.

Our cover for this issue is a photograph by Debra Rose. She describes "enjoying the way man is preserving nature and educating the public at a butterfly sanctuary. I was able to capture that moment, un-manipulated or adjusted, for eternity" Her complete artist's statement is on page four.
Summer’s full on and we hope you’ll find a shady spot and enjoy our Features section. “Urban places are set within natural places,” Olmstead of parks fame said. We have several wonderful takes on tapping into those natural places. We also have a call to arms to make your voice heard as Congress debates the future of our planet. Also, we’ve continued to add new businesses, services and organizations as we’ve come across them. About 100 new ones this issue. There are more out there, so we’ll keep looking.
