Home Organizing: Compassionate and Nonjudgmental Support to Declutter, Simplify and Beautify Your Home. We Re-use and Re-cycle Responsibly to Reduce Waste!
Spiritual Counseling/Healing/Teaching:
Because the outer is a reflection of the inner, your home environment will either support or detract from your own/family's sense of peace. Spiritual and emotional support are intergral to our home organizing service. Additional Spiritual Teaching/Counseling/Healing Support is also offered as a separate service.

The Louisville Sufi Spirituality Group meets on most Sunday evenings to study the ancient spiritual path of Sufism. Sufism, most commonly known in this country through the works of the poet Rumi, is open to people of all faiths who are seeking to surrender to the One Living Reality, at the core of all the world’s religions. This experiential path of heart teaches people how to find peace, love, mercy and freedom by staying in continual connection with God’s love.
Maryam studies, practices and teaches Sufism under the direction of her spiritual guide, Sidi Muhammad al-Jamal. Sidi lives in Jerusalem where he teaches at al-Aqsa Mosque. He is Head of the Higher Sufi Council in Jerusalem and the Holy Land and is Guide for his beloveds who follow the Shadhuliyya Way. Please note that Sidi will be in Chicago, August 14-17. Q and A
How does home organizing help the environment? When unused “stuff” piles up in your home, you have taken it out of circulation where it could be reused, recycled or even rebuilt. When I work with you, I am committed to helping you find the best places for your stuff. That may include, recycling, consigning, donating, or trashing.
What is the psycho/emotional/spiritual cost of living with too much clutter?
Believe it or not, every single thing that takes up space in your home is an energetic drag on you. If the item brings joy and beauty into your life, that energetic drag is more than offset by the benefits. However, many items simply become part of the “background noise” of the house and are often reminders of:
• unfinished business,
• visual cues to beat ourselves up for not being neater or more organized,
• detractors from the natural beauty of the living space,
• triggers to feelings of overwhelm,
and
• interferers with our capacity both to work productively, to relax, or even to pray or meditate.
How does a cluttered living environment negatively impact our sense of family peace?
Very rarely do two people have the same threshold of tolerance for clutter. Clutter becomes a point of contention between living partners and between parents and children. In most families, too much energy is spent trying to deal with the negative impact of having a cluttered, unorganized, or messy house.
And what about a personal sense of peace?
Human beings respond to beauty and order in their surroundings. Clutter for most people equals a certain level of chaos and the spiritual masters say that “the outer reflects the inner.” By decluttering, simplifying and bringing order to your home environment, you will feel a palpable sense of relief, a decrease in tension and and concomitantly, a sense of inner peace.
So then, what do I do if my husband (or wife) is a packrat and I live by the motto, “less is more?”
This can be painful and very frustrating for the “less is more” partner. It really helps if the packrat partner is willing to really hear how his/her habits effect their partner. It is important to honor the almost neurological wiring of the “less is more” partner because this is a quality of life issue for that person.
The packrat partner needs help in getting to the root cause of his/her need to collect things. Their willingness to put their partner’s well being before “things” needs to be assessed. They need help in prioritizing what must stay and what can be parted with. Often this process occurs in steps over time and requires patience and support. They must be able to trust that neither the home organizer nor their partner will throw stuff out behind their back so that they can relax with the process of decluttering.
Do people ever feel too embarrassed to hire a home organizer?
In my experience, most people feel embarrassed but I can often help to ease the situation simply by speaking with them on the phone and answering questions. People often just need reassurance that I am not judging them and that I really have “seen everything.” Following a friendly phone conversation, I offer an in home consultation so that you can meet me face to face. We walk through the house and I give you a chance to explain your challenges and needs. I get really excited about helping people create the living environment that best supports them and every situation is a unique challenge. Where you see messes, I see potential.
What if I don’t have a lot of money?
Home organizing can be done as a series of projects over time. We can prioritize projects to maximize your sense of accomplishment even on a low budget. People are often surprised how much can be accomplished with emotional support, a plan, focused attention, and some good old elbow grease. If you are willing, I can give you specific “homework” assignments between visits to maximize progress and minimize costs.
Hello,
I realize that it takes a certain amount of courage to invite a stranger into your home/life. I hope I can help you to feel more comfortable.
I raised my four children in a St. Matthews house that we quickly outgrew. Although we could afford a bigger home, we loved the open, child friendly design and our neighbors.
In addition, I have long been an avid organic gardener and had fruit trees, berries, vegetables, herbs and flowers growing all over our little urban yard so I was not interested in uprooting my family or my plants. The only way we could stay there was to continuously recycle, donate, clean and reorganize the space that we had.
When my kids were little, I remember being overwhelmed by the laundry, the clutter and all the chaos that goes along with small children and pets. I had a wonderful cleaning lady who would come in and do whatever needed to be done, without making me feel bad about my state of overwhelm. She made a deep impression on me and I learned the value of being compassionate and nonjudgmental in this kind of work.
Over the years, I began to help friends organize and declutter their homes and I found that I liked the challenge and the creativity. With my training in family therapy and spiritual counseling and healing, I found that I was able to offer more than just a labeling system to my clients.
Home Organizing is a tangible way to help my clients heal on the inside and out. I see every home as an opportunity, rather than an obstacle and admire the resiliency of the human spirit. Please do not be embarassed by the state of your home. I would like to help you and will offer you an extra set of hands, an open heart and a smile.
Thank you, Maryam
