In our area, in the middle of Wayne National Forest, hunting is such a part of the culture that the first day of gun season, the Monday after Thanksgiving, is known in the schools as "Deer Day." That day is written into the school calendar as a day when schools are closed so students can go hunting. Naturally, my son wanted to join in, so he took the required "Hunters Safety Course" offered by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. He earned a 98% on the test. His internal motivation was obviously stronger than anything we could do or offer.
