The worksheet should contain different stories, poems, articles and essays. The complexity of the stories should depend on the grade of the students. The pupils from grade 1 to 5 should be given folklores which depict some history of America as well as some religious myths coined into interesting stories. Such worksheets should test simple understanding of tense and words meaning from context. Story structure questionnaire should also be included in story comprehensions. Many children are being left behind due to lack of math skills. Schools today seem to do a poor job of preparing students for math at the middle and high school level. Here are 5 tips that parents can use to help their child be successful at math. Start early. Before your child goes to preschool, they need to be familiar with small numbers, up to 10. Two is easy to teach and point out. Pair of socks, shoes, etc. Five fingers on a hand and toes on feet. Ten total fingers and toes. At the preschool level, start counting up to 20. Add small numbers, 1 plus 1 is 2. 2 plus 1 is 3. You can even begin the fraction of one half. Half a sandwich, and other food items are a great start. When finishing kindergarten, your child needs to be able to count past 20 and know what larger numbers mean as well. Not working with them, just be familiar.

In my first year of teaching and for many years that followed, I spent an inordinate amount of time preparing my own first day of school handouts. I thought it was the "hook" that students needed. I thought that teacher dominated discourse represented learning. But it really wasn not. It was actually a cover up for understanding the true purpose of what a good handout actually is all about.
Sometimes children are given maths worksheets where they have to calculate the cost of things or work out how much change should be given on items that cost $3.60 when someone hands over a five dollar bill. You could do the following: Get them to color in and name the three items, If there are no pictures on the worksheet then give them a sheet of paper to draw and color the items and then cut them out and paste them onto the worksheet, Once they have done this try to find five dollars in change and help them count out the money and calculate what is left.
Play a magnetic fish game with cardboard fish with a paper-clip and a piece of dowel and string with a magnet on the end as a fishing rod. Count the fish in the pond. When one gets caught subtraction how many are left? Division can be as simple as a sharing exercise. "There are 4 people here and I have 8 counters. Let us see how many we will get each". Use play dough or counters or blocks to make groups of items. Talk about what happens when you put groups together (multiplication). Make the terminology you use simple. This age group need simple language instead of mathematical terms. These activities are laying the foundations for further learning.
A variance to counting money game would be to start them out with their own money pot, then if they get the answer wrong, they have to give back money to you. Each question would either add to their pot or deduct. At the end of the game you will still want to have the prizes available for purchase and allowing them to earn their prizes. Using games to learn about money is much easier than getting free money worksheets and having them try to add on paper. This interactive money game will be a great learning tool in your home school. It does not have to be expensive to home school your child there are many free resources online
